Uniformity in obesity-related comorbidity definitions: developing a resource to follow children into adulthood

Aims

Definitions:

1. To comprehensively examine the literature for existing definitions of obesity-related comorbidities in children and adults.
2. To amalgamate existing definitions of obesity-related comorbidities and identify the most appropriate by expert consensus.

Tool development:

1. To develop an electronic resource for health professionals working in obesity, which permits automated calculation of comorbid status during follow-up, requiring entry of individual test and measurement data.
2. To disseminate the resource, approved and supported by two leading adolescent bariatric surgical units, as the chosen set of definitions for longitudinal follow-up of young people undergoing obesity treatment and monitoring.
